Vapor Recovery Vessels

VRT

VRV

Whirlwind offers vertical VRT (vapor recovery tower) and horizontal VRV (vapor recovery vessel) separator vessels for use in vapor recovery (gas flashing) prior to oil entering the atmospheric oil storage tanks.

VRT (vapor recovery tower) vessels allow for the oil stream to flow into the vertical vapor vessel by means of pressure from the upstream process equipment.   With adequate volume and time the entrained gas will "flash" from the oil and collect at the top of the vessel to be captured and compressed by a VRU (vapor recovery unit).   The oil will fill to an outlet connection higher than the atmospheric oil stock tanks and gravity flow into the tanks.

VRV (vapor recovery vessel) vessels allow for the oil steam to flow into the horizontal vessel by means of pressure from the upstream process equipment.   Much like the VRT, with adequate volume and time the entrained gas will "flash" from the oil and collect at the top of the vessel to be captured and compressed by a VRU (vapor recovery unit).   The oil within the vessel will be mechanically pumped from the vessel once it reaches a pre-determined point.   The vessel control system is designed to divert the oil flow from the horizontal vessel in the event the VRU (vapor recovery unit) is out of service or there is an issue with the transfer pump.   Both systems are currently in operation domestically for separating flash gas from produced oil.

Vessels are available in 50#, 75# and 125# MAWP in ASME Code and Non-Code configurations.    Heights ranging from 20 to 40'+ and diameters from 20" to 48"+ O.D. are available.   Custom confiurations are also available based on your firm's specific requirements.

Control pump and bypass system kits (transfer pump, controller, level control switches and three way bypass valve) are available for VRV (horizontal vapor recovery vessel) applications.
